Patrick County PYSL Academy and Tiny Canes

Patrick County PYSL Academy and Tiny Canes

To enhance the level of soccer in our local area, PYSL is offering programs to those living in Patrick County and the surrounding areas that have been outside of our club's network. The programs offered are designed to be fun and competitive for players aged 3-10 years old, while also encouraging individual creativity and improvement of skills.
The goal of the new Patrick County programs, particularly with Academy, from at the wholistic level is to develop players for future PYSL Travel Squads, whether it be in Patrick County or Martinsville-Henry County.

Coaching Staff

Coaching for Patrick County PYSL this Fall 2019 and Spring 2020 will be overseen by the PYSL Patrick County Director, Stephen Jackson.

Player Selection

All Patrick County PYSL Academy teams will be formed by the PYSL Patrick County Director and the PYSL Director of Coaching. Academy teams will be eligible to play in the SOVAS Academy League, consisting of teams from Martinsville, Danville, Blairs, and Halifax.

Players who wish to tryout can register with the club by emailing Stephen Jackson here. Any players who don’t register by online may contact Coach Jackson and receive a copy of the registration form from him. Tiny Canes are open to anyone within the ages of the program, regardless of gender.

A copy of the rules for the Academy League are posted underneath. The rules follow much of the same rules found in Rec, but with a few differences that pertain to the development of the soccer player.

Training will take place at least once per week. Once rostered to an Academy level team, all training sessions are mandatory. Players who do not train may lose playing time in matches. If missing a training session is unavoidable, the player must let his/her coach know in advance so that the coach can plan his/her practice plans accordingly.

The Academy teams will play in the Academy League, consisting of Danville, Southside, Halifax and JH Soccer Academy. Competitions will take place on the weekends, with a possible case of a weekday game. In addition, PYA teams will be eligible to play in some outside tournaments. If missing a match is unavoidable, the player must let his/her coach know at least 5 calendar days in advance so that the coach can plan that particular weekend’s squads accordingly, as teams will be mixed up throughout the season.
