PYSL Wins Two Age Groups at Valley United's Fall Kickoff Classic

PYSL opens their travel season in Roanoke with two travel teams winning their age groups in the Fall Kickoff Classic. For these two travel teams, this is their very first tournament win together in their short existence. The 2011 Boys, formed during last Spring's travel season, won their Saturday morning game against New River United 2011B Blue 4-3 in a tight game, before drawing NC Fusion 2011B GSO Silver 3-3 in the afternoon game. They were able to clinch a spot on the final against Valley United 2011 Boys 4-0, before beating Valley again 1-0 in the Final. The tournament win is the first for the team, and the coaching debut for Arthur de Souza.

The 2012 Boys tournament success started with a 6-2 win over East River Raptors U11/U12 Saturday morning, before another win later that afternoon against Valley United's U11 team 3-1, clinching a spot in the final. The boys swept the group stage Sunday, winning 5-1 against New River United's U11 team, and facing East River in the final. The boys made it a sweep in the finals, beating East River 4-1 in the rematch. The team is led by Louis Horne, longtime PYSL coach.

In addition to the 2011 and 2012 Boys teams playing this weekend, the 2008 Boys, 2004 Girls Red and 2004 Boys Red were in action in Roanoke. The 2008 Boys won their Saturday games against Valley United 08B 5-0 and Suffolk FC Rampage 4-1, earning the 1 seed. They won their semi final game against Legacy FC 4-3, before losing a tough game again New River United 08B 1-0. Also, the 2004 Girls Red had two tough losses to Virginia United's ECNL teams on Saturday, before recovering to win against Suffolk 3-1 and drawing Charlotte Independence 1-1. Finally, the 2004 Boys Red played two games on Saturday, tying against the two Virginia United ECNL teams 1-1 and 0-0.

We congratulate our five travel teams on their successes at Roanoke, and look forward to our other travel teams to start their seasons in September.
